Aroma therapy is the use of essential oils to assist the body’s ability to repair itself. Even though the oils used in aroma therapy have distinct and unique fragrances, it does not mean that aroma therapy is used by inhalation only. On the contrary, aroma therapy also includes topical applications for health issues such as fatigue, pain, relaxation and indigestion to name a few.
Essential oils are plant extracts which are separated from their sources by steam distillation, or by pressure. Depending on the purity of the retrieval process, there are different grades of essential oils.
Oils used for medicinal purposes should always be the finest or therapeutic grade. Therapeutic grade oils are created from the first round of distillation or pressing and are bottled without dilution. Most oils in grocery stores are not therapeutic grade. Instead, they are a diluted or watered down version of the original oil.
